HW due 10/27: Duino Elegy #2

1.Duino Elegy #2–Print, read, and annotate for the morrow!
2. Our next original piece will be an elegy!!! Remember, an elegy is a melancholy lamentation! You are also expected to factor Nature into the poem. Tonight, give it some thought!

 

HW due 10/27: The Bell Jar and more

1. The Bell Jar–Read and annotate Chapters 15 and 16.
2. Confessional Poems…  Requirements:

  • Honest and Authentic
  • Free verse if fine
  • You must use stanzaic form
  • You must employ “painterly language” and literary devices throughout (i.e. vivid imagery, metaphor, symbolism, motifs, etc)

3. Class Vocab!–Print and bring to class on the morrow!

HW due 10/26: Explication

Poetry Explication–Typed explication of “To the Virgins…” due Monday.

HW due 10/26: Schopenhauer

1.  Schopenhauer, “On the Suffering of the World”–Located in the rear of the packet, Schopey Wopey’s essay brings us back to one of the more common themes of the term. Read and annotate the text. This is a short text so hop to it!
2. Schopenhauer–read and annotate “On the Vanity of Existence.” So you should be ready to discuss BOTH of his essays on Monday.

3. The Stranger Essay–First draft due Tuesday.
