Due 2/28: Enjoy Your Break

1. No Homework over the break! Enjoy your time with family and friends and Self!

2. If you have chosen your PBA poet, it may not be a bad idea to start reading some poets by said poet. Also, I encourage you to free write in your poetry journal. Till the end of the month, take care!

Due 2/16: Man’s Search for Meaning

1. Man’s Search for Meaning–Read and annotate up to p. 62 (stop at “Many weeks later we found out that even in those last hours…”)

Due 2/15: Villanelles

1. Reading–Read and annotate The Home on the Hill by Robinson and One Art by Bishop.

2. (Due 2/16) Villanelle–Remember, this is a fixed form poem! Your villanelle should mirror Dylan Thomas’. It should be typed. You must closely follow the form requirements of the villanelle. Including:

  • 19 lines of verse (5 tercets and 1 quatrain)
  • Rhyme scheme
  • Set number of syllables/beats per line (iambic pentameter)
  • Don’t forget the refrains! The fist and third line of verse repeat throughout and follow a specific pattern.

Use proper heading (Which some of you are still struggling with):

2. Villanelle

Due 2/15: Man’s Search for Meaning

1. Man’s Search for Meaning–Read and annotate up to p. 32. (Stop with “Undernourishment, besides being the cause of the general preoccupation with food…”

Online version of the text. Page numbers will be off so keep that in mind as we get into discussion of the text.

Due 2/14: Editing

1. Essay Editing–Thoroughly and constructively edit your peer’s essay paying particular attention to the points of focus. Yet, do not ONLY pay attention to the points of focus. Remember, you will be graded on your editing job. Again, be sure to give constructive feedback (Meaning simply pointing out problems is not good enough. Offer up suggestions for improvement).

Note: Everyone is expected to edit an essay. If you were absent or did not have a copy today in class, it is still your responsibility to ensure that you edit someone’s essay. Also, if you were absent today, you must bring in a note explaining your absence. Otherwise, your essay is late.

2. (Due 2/15) Between the World and Me-Read and annotate up to p. 50.
