Due 2/8: Kierkegaard

1. Soren Kierkegaard–Read and annotate That Individual. It is in the philosophy packet. Be sure you can articulate Kierkegaard’s thesis and supporting argument. The following week we will write our first précis. This requires that you have at least Control of the source article. In this case, our source is That Individual. Print out the précis detail sheet.

2. Man’s Search for Meaning–Linked, you will find the copy of the text that I would like you to buy for the class. We will start reading this weekend!

Due 2/7: Sonnets and Reading

1. Writing–final drafts of sonnets.

They must be typed (times new roman or arial, font size 12) with the following heading in the upper left hand corner:

Title is optional!

The basic requirements of a traditional sonnet are the following:

  • 14 lines
  • iambic pentameter
  • rhyme scheme:
    • Shakespearean: ABAB CDCD EFEF GG

2. Reading–Read To the Virgins to Make of Time by Robert Herrick and the following sections:

  • Verse Forms (17)
  • Devices of Sound (18-20)

You must bring all readings (annotated) to class the next day.

Due 2/7: Essay Review and Du Bois

1. Evaluate (write comments on the essay) the first body paragraph in this essay on SH5. Focus on:

  • Topic sentence
  • How the student introduces evidence
  • Evidence
  • Analysis of evidence

Score the paragraph in the evidence and analysis categories of the rubric. Each category has a max of 4 and a min of 1.

2. Read and annotate Of Our Spiritual Strivings by W.E.B. Du Bois.
