HW due 2/2: Slaughterhouse Five and More

1. Slaughterhouse Five–Complete the novel! As you finish the novel, FOCUS your annotating on tracking Vonnegut’s treatment of a certain theme or tracking his use of particular devices. Remember, this will be one of two options (the other being 1984) for your next essay.

2. Satire/Parody projects are due by 3 p.m. Thursday! In addition to your film, you must submit a script (to satisfy the written requirement for the project).

The following will be considered when assessing the satire/parody project:

1. Project’s visual impact (The visual should be aesthetically pleasing…more simply, it should look amazing). Many of you are making films! Be thoughtful/creative in how you compose each shot and how you edit the film.
2. The project should demonstrate control of satire and/or parody.
3. Project is thoughtful. Beyond the visual element, the written element should also reflect great thought on subject and form.
4. Project is well-designed/executed.
5. Project reflects exceptional effort.  This one is very important as I (and my fellow assessors) expect to see a project that “took time and effort” to complete.
6. All projects are expected to employ irony as one of the primary figurative elements to carry the project’s purpose/message. Be thoughtfully/creatively ironic!

Another term has come and gone. Seven chapters of your high school experience have been written; you have one to go! Live fully in this final chapter. Don’t wish it away… In the end, leave Beacon a bit better because you were here; leave the landscapes of the lives you grace in peace and happiness; and be grateful.

Thank you dearly for a great term. I was touched by your heart and wisdom. I was honored to teach you and I am proud to know you.

HW due 1/25: Term Final and Thank You

1. Term Final–Final Drafts are due Monday by 3 p.m. You can either place your final draft AND EDITED FIRST DRAFT in my mail box or hand them to me. DO NOT staple the two drafts together; rather, paperclip them together. Be sure to pay attention to the little things!

2. The Trial–Turn in your copy of The Trial so that I may grade your annotations. If you do not, I will be forced to give you a zero. Write your name inside the front cover. NOTE: A small number of your wrote in school copies which means I cannot use them next term. Please buy a replacement copy. The copy you annotated in will be yours.

3. Steppenwolf–Please return school copies this week! I also need them for next term. If you wrote in a school copy, please purchase a replacement. Thank you! You’re the best!
