HAVE A WONDERFUL BREAK!!!
As you enjoy your break, keep the following in mind: [Read more…]
PLEASE, IF POSSIBLE, BRING IN A REAM OF COPY PAPER ON MONDAY! I WOULD BE QUITE GRATEFUL…
ALSO, we will begin The Stranger in little over a week! Unfortunately, we have only a few copies on hand, so if you can purchase your own copy, please do so.
* Be sure you closely read the course syllabus!*
1. This weekend you should register for the class website, Blackboarddreams.com. To do this, you must scroll to the bottom of the homepage and click “Register.” Your username should be your Full Name (First and Last). Be sure to register by midnight Sunday. I will shut down registration at that point. Once you register, respond to the welcome thread/question on the forum for YOUR CLASS. Again, this should be completed BEFORE midnight on Sunday. While you’re at it, explore the website!
2. Remember, you will have an in-class writing assessment on Man’s Search for Meaning. Just a hint: The essay will require that you use Part I of the text to illuminate/illustrate the philosophical/psychological conclusions of Part II. This in-class essay will take place on Tuesday for C band and Wednesday for G band. You will be able to use your copy of the text as well as notes during the period.
3. On Monday, I expect you to have all supplies in place including class binder. You should keep the course syllabus in your Binder in the appropriate section! Stay organized…
4. I will distribute the philosophical packets on Monday so that you can get a jump on the reading. (Sartre’s “Existentialism is a Humanism” and Barrett’s “Encounter with Nothingness”)
5. Have a wonderful weekend!
6. And remember, “Children need encouragement. So if a kid gets an answer right, tell him it was a lucky guess. That way, he develops a good, lucky feeling.”
1. Remember, your detailed outlines are due Wednesday, May 28. Also, per the “How to Write a Comparative Analysis” sheet: [Read more…]
1. The Alchemist–Read and annotate up to page 25.
2. Satire/Parody Project–Monday, Jan. 27th. Remember this is your term final, so treat it as such.
3. (10G) Continue with our Build a Paragraph exercise… This weekend you should add at least two sentences of analysis/insight to your paragraph. Keep in mind your topic and evidence (from class). I will ask that you share these with the class via our new electronic gizmo…you will see. [Read more…]
There will be little rubs and disappointments everywhere, and we are all apt to expect too much; but then, if one scheme of happiness fails, human nature turns to another; if the first calculation is wrong, we make a second better: we find comfort somewhere.
